Projects completed - Le Domaine de Fontenille

Le Domaine de Fontenille, located on the South side of Luberon, was bought in 2013 by Mr Biousse and Foucher. The Provencal Land Agency brought its necessary technical knowledge, vision and know-how to favour the awakening of this sleeping estate. After a land audit, a definition of its goals over 5 or 10 years and the set up of a timetable, the consultants of the firm managed the implementation of restructuration of the vineyard and the creation of the cellar. They performed an intense work, in very close partnership with the owners, who were very much involved in this project.Vine side22,000 vine stocks were planted during the spring of 2015, when the moon was favorable, the planting machine being guided by GPS. In a few years’ time, these new plantations will produce a delicious nectar in the three colors, along with the previous vines which have been renovated, notably with the installation of new trellises for most of the previous plots, the replacement of missing plants, and the implementation of irrigation.Cellar sideOn the cellar side, the changes are even more impressive. The previous cellar which was located under ancient arches in the historical part of the Bastide, has been transformed into an Art Gallery. A new winery stands today in the middle of the vine with a process redesigned by The Provencal Land Agency: a semi-circular gravity-powered concrete cellar, for red wines and a very technical stainless steel cellar for white wines and rosés, a last generation system of reception of harvests, a computerized control of cold, a nitrogen generator sheltering the system from oxygen… Two tailor made oaken tronconic vats allow vinification and aging, and thus complex organoleptic shades. Tradition and modernity are the watchwords in Fontenille.Wine sideThis is a radical change. The thoroughness and stature of the new packaging is characteristic of the owner’s signature: a balanced burgundy bottle, a sober label, a 100% natural cork. The flavours have also evolved: a subtle and floral white wine, a velvety red wine which patiently matured in barrels for three years, an explosive and modern rosé.
