Pierredon is not only an exceptional abbey in the heart of the Alpilles Massif, but also the expression of an owner's determination to bring back to life a site damaged by successive fires. It was in 2004 that the challenge was launched: to recreate totally the farming activity that had disappeared. Within three years, 25 acres of vines and 17 of olive trees were planted, farmed organically, and the first harvest took place in 2008.Almond trees, lavender, truffle oaks and enough goats to produce quite a lot of cheeses, have contributed to the site's magic.Abbaye de Pierredon, which is now present in some top restaurants, will undoubtedly become one of the jewels of the region of Baux-de-Provence.The olive oil was still produced in limited quantities in 2009, but 600 bottles will be available on the market in the spring of 2010 (by advance order), and it should really be available on the market after the 2010-2011 winter harvest.
